Thursday, September 23, 2021
On Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 03:03 hours the Ellendale Fire Company along with Sussex County EMS and Delaware State Police Aviation Section were alerted for an MVC with reported entrapment in the 17000 block of DuPont Boulevard (US 113) south of the Town of Ellendale, Delaware.
Upon arrival, units found a car had struck the rear of a tractor trailer at a high rate of speed, trapping the driver of the car. The impact of the collision had been significant enough to dislodge the rear axle of the trailer and the windshield of the car was still wrapped in the rear controls of the trailer, which was now parked approximately 1/4 of a mile away.
Units worked to stabilize the passenger vehicle and extricate the patient, which required a roof removal and dash displacement. The patient was extricated and transported to an area hospital. DuPont Boulevard remained closed for several hours for the Delaware State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
