Aetna responds for commercial fire

Friday, June 12, 2020
On 6/4/2020 at 1912 hours the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, along with mutual aid, were dispatched to the 300 block of Research Boulevard on the UD STAR Campus for a commercial structure fire. Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the Bravo side and roof of a single story commercial occupancy. First arriving units had to cut through a fence and force entry into the building to make access. Several 2.5" hose lines were used to extinguish the fire which was involving one of three hydrogen buses inside of the building. The building's sprinkler system also helped to limit the fire from spreading to surrounding buses and the rest of the structure. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries and crews remained on scene for an hour and a half. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire and Deputy Chief Sands had Newark Command. Photos courtesy of Aetna Photographer Dave Wilson.
